How to read your trim code

Through this part of the run the trim code is a plain three-digit number with no letter in it, and the number alone tells you both the colour and the material. Read it off the trim tag, the small plate riveted to the driver's side of the body just inside the door opening, where it sits next to the paint code. Match the number against the table above: the same colour usually carries one number in vinyl and a different one in leather, so the code distinguishes a leather car from a vinyl one even when the seats have long since been recovered.

What each 1974 interior came with

This is the same factory chart the 1974 colour page carries, turned round. That page starts from the paint and tells you what could go inside. This one starts from the trim code, which is the way round you need when you have read the tag and want to know whether the car left the factory in the combination it wears now.

Read the other way round: the exterior colours Chevrolet recommended for each interior. Other combinations could be special ordered.

Seats and trim in 1974

The custom interior with leather trim cost $154.00 and 19,959 cars took it, more than half the year's production. 1974 also integrated the shoulder belts with the lap belts and changed the locking mechanism to a swinging-weight type triggered by the car's deceleration, and the inside mirror grew to ten inches wide.

The interior chart for every model year from 1968 to 1982 is on the C3 interior trim page. The exterior paint codes for this year, with how many cars wore each colour, are on the 1974 colour page, and the full option list is on the 1974 specifications page.
