What is an RPO code?

An RPO (Regular Production Option) code is the 3-character code Chevrolet used to identify every factory option, engines, transmissions, axle ratios, paint and trim, and comfort or convenience equipment. On a C3 Corvette you'll find these codes on the original window sticker, the dealer order/build sheet, and partly encoded in the trim tag. Decoding them tells you exactly how your Corvette left the St. Louis or Bowling Green plant.

Where do I find the option codes on my C3 Corvette?

On many C3 Corvettes the factory build sheet, often called the tank sticker, was placed on top of the fuel tank under the rear deck and lists the options the car was built with. The codes also appeared on the original order copy and window sticker.

Are C3 Corvette RPO codes the same every year?

No. Chevrolet added, dropped and reused option codes from year to year, so the same code can mean different things in different model years. Always decode against the correct model year.

Does the RPO list include the engine?

Yes. The engine is a regular production option, so it has its own RPO code, for example L48, L82 or LT1. This decoder shows the engine options along with the rest.

What is the difference between the VIN and the RPO codes?

The VIN identifies the car: its year, plant, body style and build number. The RPO codes describe how it was equipped. You need both for the full picture.
