Model year 1979
1979 Corvette Interior Colors and Trim Codes
1979 is the year the high-back seats from the 1978 Pace Car became standard on every Corvette. Six interior colours were offered. Below is every trim code, what it came with, and how to read it off the tag.
1979 interior trim codes
| Interior colour | Cloth | Leather |
|---|---|---|
| Black | not offered | 192 |
| Medium Red | not offered | 722 |
| Light Doeskin | 59C | 592 |
| Dark Blue | 29C | 292 |
| Dark Brown | 69C | 692 |
| Oyster White | 12C | 122 |
How to read your trim code
From 1975 the trim code carries a letter that tells you the material at a glance. A code ending in V is vinyl and one ending in C is cloth, while an all-numeric code ending in 2 is leather. So 19V and 192 are the same black, one in vinyl and one in leather. Read the code off the trim tag riveted to the driver's side of the body, just inside the door opening, alongside the paint code. It is the only surviving evidence of what the car originally had once the seats have been recovered.
What each 1979 interior came with
This is the same factory chart the 1979 colour page carries, turned round. That page starts from the paint and tells you what could go inside. This one starts from the trim code, which is the way round you need when you have read the tag and want to know whether the car left the factory in the combination it wears now.

Seats and trim in 1979
The high-back seat introduced on the 1978 Pace Car replica became standard across the range. Heavy use of plastic cut about twelve pounds per seat, the backs folded at a higher point for easier access to the rear storage, inertia locking replaced the manual locks, and both seats gained an inch of forward travel. An illuminated visor-mirror became available on the passenger side.
The interior chart for every model year from 1968 to 1982 is on the C3 interior trim page. The exterior paint codes for this year, with how many cars wore each colour, are on the 1979 colour page, and the full option list is on the 1979 specifications page.
