How to read your trim code

Through this part of the run the trim code is a plain three-digit number with no letter in it, and the number alone tells you both the colour and the material. Read it off the trim tag, the small plate riveted to the driver's side of the body just inside the door opening, where it sits next to the paint code. Match the number against the table above: the same colour usually carries one number in vinyl and a different one in leather, so the code distinguishes a leather car from a vinyl one even when the seats have long since been recovered.

What each 1971 interior came with

This is the same factory chart the 1971 colour page carries, turned round. That page starts from the paint and tells you what could go inside. This one starts from the trim code, which is the way round you need when you have read the tag and want to know whether the car left the factory in the combination it wears now.

Read the other way round: the exterior colours Chevrolet recommended for each interior. Other combinations could be special ordered.

Seats and trim in 1971

The custom interior with leather trim cost $158.00 and 2,602 cars had it. Because 1971 is almost identical to 1970 on the outside, the trim tag is one of the more reliable ways to tell what you are looking at.

The interior chart for every model year from 1968 to 1982 is on the C3 interior trim page. The exterior paint codes for this year, with how many cars wore each colour, are on the 1971 colour page, and the full option list is on the 1971 specifications page.
