What makes a 1978 Corvette a 1978

1978 is the Corvette's twenty-fifth anniversary year and the year of the fastback rear window, the single biggest change to the C3 body since 1968. The new glass added real luggage space behind the seats. Two special editions were offered: the Silver Anniversary two-tone paint package and the Indy 500 Pace Car replica with its black-over-silver scheme and front and rear spoilers. The dashboard was redesigned with a glovebox in front of the passenger for the first time in the generation.

Below are the 1978 cars that readers of Corvette-C3.com have sent in over the years, in the words of the people who own them. Click any photo to see it full size. If you own a 1978, send yours in and it will be added here.

This is my 1978 Corvette. It was a two plus years project to restore a car that many would say 'no way'. Most all the interior parts were replaced with the help of ebay, the front and rear bumpers were replaced and I added a rear spoiler. The original style aluminum rims were purchased from two different ebay sellers and polished and painted to original condition.

Dennis's 1978 Corvette

My name is Dennis Gionet and I'm from Caraquet, New-Brunswick ,Canada. I bought my black /oyster white 1978 back in 1989 and I still enjoy it like the first day I bought it. I do enjoy cruising with my 5 year old daughter Jol'ne (I like the father and daughter time spend together). What I do like since I have my Vette is that I've made a lot of friends from all over Atlantic Canada from going to show and shines and major shows like the Atlantic Nationals in Moncton N.B. When I bought it the previous owner had stripped and refinished it in black base/clear coat. The only mod I did was polishing the wheels, adding a black out kit, a front spoiler and have made a set of custom seats taken from an old '85 Fiero. In the last 18 years it has never sleep outside.

George W's 1978 Corvette

I'm George from Nova Scotia. I just bought this Vette in Nov 2001. I had never driven one before and only had one ride around the block from a friend about 25 years ago. I had always wanted one of these cool cars and finally bought one. This is a 1978 red on red. Besides seeing more Vettes you meet a lot of great people (including my friend Binnie).

Jack F's 1978 Corvette

I'm Jack from Holly, a little town between Flint and Pontiac, Michigan. I purchased my 1978 Corvette new in February of 1978, and had the car for about 5 years before I had to sell it to help finance my boys college education. At the time when I sold the Vette I had two boys in college. The buyer told me that he would give me first chance to purchase the car back if he were to resell it. He called me about two months ago and now I have my baby back. The Vette has power windows, air conditioning, sport mirrors, gymkhana suspension, cruise control, L82 engine, automatic transmission, tilt wheel, P255/60 R15 W/Letter tires, Am/Fm stereo CB radio, aluminum wheels, black leather bucket seats. When I sold the Vette it had 13K miles on it and now it has 50K miles. I still have the original invoice, window sticker, and EPA window sticker. I think this will be the last stop for this Vette until its passed on to the boys.
